The Cedars has been rated by the Care Quality Commission as ‘Good’ and we strive to improve our standards on a daily basis. It is situated in a grade II listed building surrounded by beautiful gardens which provide a calm, relaxing atmosphere in which residents are afforded specialist, friendly care.

Our Accommodation

The home consists of 36 rooms decorated in a homily fashion with 29 of these rooms offering an en suite bathroom. In addition, we have two rooms which give the option of residents sharing, as research has established that sharing a room can often assist with dementia care. We encourage our residents to adorn their rooms with as many of their personal belongings as they wish in order for them to feel like it is their room and truly is their home away from home.

Living and Dining Areas

The home has three spacious living areas in which residents can socialise and participate in group activities or sit peacefully, engaging in individual activities. Each living area offers scenic views of the beautiful gardens surrounding the home.

Residents are given the choice of having meals in their own rooms or in the large dining area contained within one of the living areas. Residents are able to enjoy a varied menu of home cooked meals with snacks available in between mealtimes if they wish to have them. As with all our staff, our cook makes sure that she gets to know each resident’s individual likes and dislikes so meals can be tailor made to cater for special tastes or diets.

The Grounds

The home is situated within award-winning gardens which are carefully maintained to provide our residents with an outdoor space in which they can enjoy leisurely walks or sit socialising or just taking in the views. Residents are encouraged to assist in the gardens and we offer a range of outdoor activities which centre around the garden.

The home has a full time Entertainment Coordinator and staff will sit down with each resident and their families in order to put together an individual activities schedule – allowing a resident to participate in both group and individual activities at a pace which they feel comfortable with.

The residents are offered both one-to-one activities and group activities. In addition, residents are supported in accessing religious services as per their beliefs as well as other activities in the community that are of interest to them. A hairdresser visits the home regularly as well as a chiropodist.

Caring Staff

At The Cedars we pride ourselves in having a team which consists of experienced, hardworking, approachable staff who offer a friendly but professional service to all our residents. Our staff are highly committed to providing exceptional levels of care and, as training is an ongoing focus to staff development, residents and their families can be confident that the staff at The Cedars are highly knowledgeable and up to date with all the relevant issues pertaining to caring for people with the specialist needs that reside at the home.

Leading the staffing team is Denise Goldman who is an experienced, qualified nurse whose caring and nurturing nature means that she always resonates with individual residents’ needs as well as being able to support the staff in continuously striving to provide excellent quality care.

“In June 2015 I broke my ankle for the second time as I was 85 and on my own. I couldn’t stay at home. I wasn’t sick or frail, but wasn’t allowed to walk even in plaster for 10 weeks. I didn’t want to go into care it scared me. The Cedars gave me a light airy room and the staff were wonderful, they are much more than staff they are a family in themselves. I cannot praise them enough.”
